It was a nice place to stop for a few days before heading back to Tokyo. Great places to eat and beautiful walks around the lake. There is a bathhouse not to far from the hotel but they do not allow tattoos- no exceptions.

This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views.

This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views. I went in October so out of the main season and it was nice and quiet with not many visitors around. Renting a Swan boat and feeding the ducks was great fun! I couldn't find a single vegetarian restaurant in town so something to be aware of if you don't eat meat or fish. Just be aware of the army base from which you can hear artillery fire every day. It's loud and a little disconcerting! I think Yamanakako is less touristy than Kawaguchiko which for me is a good thing.

It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities.

It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities. There's several hiking trails around the Lake, which are well marked and reward you with an awesome view of Fujisan when you get to the destination. The trails up to Mt Takazasu and Mt Myojin are good and take in the Panorama-Dei spot which is popolar for viewing Fujisan. All-day parking is available at Yamanakako Community Plaza Kirara, and the trailheads are 20-30min walk away from there. There is also a very nice 15km cycling path around the Lake, which is a very long but pleasant walk. If you're not outdoorsy, then the options are more limited to the nice restaurants, and there are high end and nice lower-priced options (Denny's, Cafe Gusto). There are also various onsen and sento in the town.

Pros - Mt Fuji is a glory to see so close up and the clouds and the skyline around the mountain were in a constant dance of change - breathtaking. The reflections of the sunset clouds on the lake were were dazzling. The freshness of the pristine air. The lack of high humidity. The sense of well-being offered by the area. The vehicles stopped at zebra crossings which isn't always the case in certain cities. Cons - At times we have to walk on the road within half a metre of passing vehicles. That could have possible unwanted outcomes.

    Yamanashi in general was gorgeous.

Yamanashi in general was gorgeous. We stayed at Yamanakako and it was a great place to stay at to get away from the stressful work environment in the city. We didn't get to eat at any local restaurants since we were too busy exploring the surrounding areas but you won't be left wanting for food options since everywhere you go, there's a restaurant nearby and they all looked so good. I think it would be more convenient if you travel around by car since the bus fare can get a little expensive if you're traveling far.

Yamanakako is a great place for people that don't like...

Yamanakako is a great place for people that don't like crowded locations. You can calmly cruise on your car around the lake, watch the swans, grab a coffee at one of several scenic cafes. You can take a mini-swan-boat for a spin in a small group while feeding swans and big fishes or take a mega-swan "pleasure boat" that takes you across the lake. Or you can take a hippo amphibian bus that will drive you right into the lake. Or you can just park your car and walk into the lake with a gorgeous view of Fuji with reflection. Dramatic scenery guaranteed. The only thing you won't see is a fancy infrastructure. There are some nice cafe's but many places look run down. Surprising though, considering how beautiful the nature is around.

Lovely proprietor. Traditional room. Breakfast in the morning with excellent lattes. There are 6 rooms (i believe) 2 shared baths which can be locked for a private or family use of the soaking bath. The proprietor was very helpful reserving a taxi (¥1460) that picked us up at the Ryokan and took us to the bus stop that got us to Mishima. He reserved the bus for us as well and even reserved our seats. It is a bit out of the way. We had lovely walls to the local public bath which has a spectacular view of Mt Fuji.

Yamanakako is a very small and sleepy town. It’s fit for travelers that are looking to escape city sounds and immerse in the woods. Teiensaryo was a very pleasant stay with incredible food. The place is family run by three generations. It’s also a 5 minute walk from the bus terminal and lake. The host are very accommodating and will drop you off wherever you need to get you to your next destination.

The owner was very friendly and nice to chat to. And the coffee that he roasted is very delicious. Anyone who like a good ol' cuppa of coffee in the morning do give it a try! The place is very near Mt Fuji as well and depending on rooms you might be greeted by Mt fuji the first thing in the morning. Very nice place if you just want to be surrounded by nature and quietness.

The thermal baths were fantastic. Breakfast and dinner were traditional Japanese cuisine, which I appreciated experiencing as an American. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The location was excellent - the bus stop is right in front of the hotel. We got a clear view of Mt. Fuji on the second morning from our balcony!

The best part of this hotel is undoubtedly the onsen. It’s my first time using a onset and I loved it so much I’ll be coming back. Also the close proximity to the lake was a bonus.
