Himeji has always been a favourite place to visit.
Himeji has always been a favourite place to visit. This is my 3rd or 4th visit. In cherry blossom season, it is nothing short of spectacular. In winter, it's not so green, but the gardens are still worth seeing and wandering through. The castle itself is worth every cent of the entry fee and one could easily spend 2 or more hours exploring all the nooks and crannies before even reaching the 6 floor castle. Climbing to the top is must, but remember you will need to take off your shoes (and the stairs are more like wide rung ladders, so hold onto the rails!
The eateries are also worthwhile visiting, with plenty of choice in the area between the station and the castle. We visited a Vietnamese restaurant at lunchtime - it was huge and totally empty apart from us, and the food was fabulous - we chose banh mi which was just as good as in its' home country.

Loved arriving on the train and as we exited the station in the evening all the Christmas lights on the wide Avenue running straight from station to the lit up Himeji Castle in the distance..just stunning. The castle is amazing and a beautiful garden alongside it. Lovely to stroll around.

Himeji castle is a must see.
Himeji castle is a must see. Extremely interesting and along with the associated park is a good 3 hour adventure. Free English speaking guides at the entrance will accompany you. Well sign posted with many displays along the route through the castle in English.

I have been here so many times.
I have been here so many times. The castle, Himeji Central Park, the aquarium.... there are so many wonderful places to visit, and at the same time, it is full of terrific shops and restaurants. I don't think there is anybody who would NOT have a good time in this pleasant little city.

The castle exceeded our expectations.
The castle exceeded our expectations. You can access the entire castle and grounds and it is more beautiful than any photo I'd seen of it. Also, the multitude of alleyways and shops is lovely, safe and fun

It is a lovely, but bustling little city.
It is a lovely, but bustling little city. The castle is within sight of just about every hotel. It is worth a day's visit. However, I would avoid it in August; it must be so hot inside, as most places probably were during the 1400s. HImeji Central Park is definitely worth a visit. There is convenient bus service, and the park is often open late on weekends. There is an aquarium, too. The city itself is loaded with old-fashioned shopping streets, closed to cars, and covered, a bonus in case you have forgotten an umbrella. It is indeed a shopping mecca. You will find everything imaginable, and near the castle, loads of old shops PLUS an open-air market that is loads of fun to browse. I am not sure whether it is open daily, so check the days/hours. Finally, there is an open, public space/park right in front of the station that makes hanging around the station area good fun. Several ice cream shops, crepe shops, loads of bread shops. The bread shop in the Hotel Nikko is particularly good, and it is a 15-second walk from the station.
The staff were great - reception, kitchen and housekeeping. Washing machines were excellent. The location next to the station and on the main street suited us perfectly. Breakfast over the 5 days of our stay was variable but never bad and occasionally good. The exceptions were the awful coffee and the lack of fresh fruit juices. The Oriental members of our party were more satisfied than the Western which is only to be expected in a Japanese hotel but they still viewed the breakfast as slightly inferior to those we enjoyed elsewhere in Japan.
Tomo-san runs an amazing guest house. My stay in 2017 was memorable enough to make it a priority stop when I finally returned to Japan after COVID. He even took the time to translate some nearby restaurants menus to assist travelers when going out for food nearby. He and his families hospitality is above and beyond anything else you will experience on the road. Do not pass up a stay here if you find yourself in Himeji.
I really loved staying at this hotel. The onsen was such a nice way to relax after a long day of exploring Himeji. The room is consistent in size with most hotels in Japan and had a good layout. I especially loved the free ramen and ice cream in the evenings. Incredible value. Great location (very close walk to Himeji shinkansen station)
Well situated close to the station and the centre of the city. Only a 15 minute walk to the castle.
Hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was very comfortable and had everything in it you would expect to find in a modern hotel. Breakfast was included in the price.
Short distance from railway station Himeji to the hotel, 7-11 convenience store & Himeji Castle are in short walking distance too. Even the check in time was 15:00 pm, I was allowed to check in early, which I appreciated greatly as for a long journey flight from Canada I did need to take shower and rest.
The 588 is located incredibly well when coming from the station, for walks to the Himeji castle or the parks as well as shopping or eating out. The common room and sleeping room are very quite despite the central location.
The host is very nice and will give advice, if you need.
The location was pretty good, straight road from Himeji station exit is is located between the station and castle. The balcony had a nice view of Himeji castle too. The room is neat and clean. Staff were extremely friendly and easily approachable.
Hotel is clean and comfortable and near the Himeji train station. Himeji Castle is a relatively short walk away. Breakfast was good with primarily Asian offerings. The price was extremely reasonable for the hotel’s location and amenities.
The best location. Literally one minute walking from Himeji station.
Great capsule bed. Comfortable and with no noise at all. good quality sleep.
Amazing stuff (ear plugs, toothbrush, towel etc) and clean shower.
Definitely worth it.
Terrific hotel. European feel in a historic place. Close to everything including the station and great base for visiting the castle. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Able to leave suitcase after check out to continue exploring.
Great location in one of the shopping streets between the station and Himeji Castle. The hostel is basically one large room with the female dorms tucked away into a separate corner room. OK amount of amenities provided.
The amenities were so nice and the room had a great view of Himeji castle! Location was also perfect; right in the middle of a lot of shopping and on the major street. Very walkable.
Very well located right in front of the train station, opposite side of the Himeji Castle. It’s very cheap and the amazing breakfast is included.
The staff was very kind and helpful.
fresh / recently build hotel, really convenient for business traveler or for a short visit in Himeji: the castle is ~20min walk in really easy straight line, good value for money
Very nice staff and comfortable rooms, I would stay here again. The walk to train station and Himeji Castle were fine, and they stored luggage for half day. 7-11 next door.
